All-Ireland champions Dublin will toast their first back-to-back titles since 1977 with a homecoming celebration in Smithfield Plaza this afternoon.

Jim Gavin’s men edged a pulsating final replay against Mayo 1-15 to 1-14 to capture Sam Maguire and will parade the trophy in front of their supporters in the celebratory event.

The team are expected to arrive at around 4.30pm for what is described as a "family-friendly alcohol-free event".

The Dubs were pushed to the pins of their collars by Stephen Rochford's men but found enough to just squeak the victory.

"This is what football is about, the two teams bring out the best in each other," Philly McMahon said afterwards.

"We are delighted. They came little bit closer to beating us today but we just got over the line.

"A lot of people are struggling in life; we are so lucky that we get to play in front of this crowd.”
