Peter Creedon is the new manager of the Laois footballers, while Galway have kept faith with Kevin Walsh and Micheál Donoghue to manage the county's footballers and hurlers respectively for a further three years.

Creedon, who previously managed Tipperary for four seasons, takes over from Mick Lillis who stepped down after one year in charge of the midlanders.

Also part of the new management ticket will be Donegal native Mickey McGeehan, who previously coached his native county, Limerick and Tipperary while Creedon was in charge.

Laois will begin 2017 in Division 3 of the Allianz League.

Creedon will also take charge of the county's under-21 side.

Meanwhile out west the respective boards in Galway have wasted no time in extending the terms of Kevin Walsh and Micheál Donoghue until the end of the 2019 season.

In his second year at the helm, Walsh guided the Tribesmen to a first Connacht football title since 2008.

O'Donoghue, who succeeded Anthony Cunningham at the end of last year, took Galway to an All-Ireland semi-final where they lost by a point to the eventual champions Tipperary.
