Collie Moran reckons Jim Gavin will stick with same Dublin 15 for replay against Mayo

Despite Jim Gavin admitting that Dublin’s performance against Mayo was not good enough, former captain Collie Moran expects the manager to stick with the same starting 15 for the replay.

In the aftermath of Sunday’s 2-09 to 0-15 draw, Gavin said: “That certainly isn't good enough to win an All-Ireland title - getting that much from play and some of our shot selection could've been better.”

No starting Dublin forward scored from play in the first half against Mayo and in the end the team only ended up with six scores from play.

However, Moran, speaking on RTÉ Sport’s GAA podcast Jones’ Road, feels that the Clondalkin man will trust his players to produce the goods on 1 October.

“I think Jim will probably go with the same starting team again,” he said.

“Dublin have options but I wouldn’t be surprised if he sticks with the same team.

“I suppose Paddy Andrews is the big [call], he came on and kicked two great scores.

"He was Mayo’s chief tormentor last year. He kicked great scores against them in the semi-final. He’ll be pushing for a start.

“It was funny not to see Denis Bastick coming on until late in the game, particularly around that middle third. I thought we could have done with some fresh legs."

But Moran’s fellow panellist, ex-Roscommon star Karol Mannion, reckons that, with the options at Dublin’s disposal, there’ll be changes.

“I think Paddy Andrews might come in the next day. The fact that he took [Kevin] McManamon off so early, it was probably undeserved but that’s a change he has made before.

“McManamon is someone he does like coming from the bench.”
