Jim Gavin has admitted that his Dublin side are lucky to still be in with a chance of retaining their All-Ireland title.
The Dubs drew with Mayo at Croke Park and only two own-goals from the Connacht team in the first half kept them in the game.
On a tough day for football Dublin never got going and Gavin acknowledged that they’re fortunate to have another shot at lifting Sam Maguire.
"Delighted to be still in the Championship after that performance," he said.
" I don’t think we deserved to win today and we’re happy to be leaving the ground this evening with the opportunity to try and do it again in two weeks.
"The luck was certainly with us today and we’d acknowledge that. We got those two bounces of the ball and we’re lucky to still be in it."
Gavin praised Mayo for putting his team under pressure and forcing them into mistakes - particularly turnovers which led to scores - though he says he expects better from players he has guided to two All-Ireland titles in three seasons.
"It wasn’t to the standards we go after," he said. "Playing a really good Mayo team there was only ever going to be a bounce of ball in it. They came at us in the first 15 minutes and our boys stood up to it well.
"Over the 70 minutes we just didn’t perform. We were playing a really good side and that’s what a top team will do to another if they don’t function.”
When asked about the most disappointing aspect of the display, he said there had been "A lot of turnover in that game and they took the scores from that."
Dublin’s challenge was hit in the first half when wing-back James McCarthy was black carded in the first half and Gavin wasn’t impressed seeing one of his most influential players getting sent to the line.
"You look at the black card when it was brought in it was for cynical play and it didn’t fit into that category," he said.
Referee Conor Lane played seven minutes of injury time at the end of the game, allowing Mayo the chance to level the game and force the replay, which will take place on Saturday 1 October.
However, Gavin said he had no problem with the amount of additional time that was added on, again reiterating that he’s just happy that his team are alive and kicking in Championship 2016.
