Monaghan have extended Malachy O'Rourke's term as senior football manager by a further three years.

The Fermanagh native has been in charge of the Farney men since 2013 and has led them to two Ulster titles in four seasons.

This season's Championship campaign ended in a surprise second-round qualifier exit to Longford after defeat in the Ulster semi-final to Donegal.

Monaghan narrowly avoided relegation from Division 1 of the Allianz Football League on points difference.

Ryan Porter and Leo Mc Bride will remain as part of his backroom team but Finbarr Fitzpatrick is stepping down as a selector.

The Monaghan County Board thanked Fitzpatrick for his efforts and said that his replacement will be announced "in the near future".
