Clare boss Colm Collins put a memorable All-Ireland SFC qualifier defeat of Roscommon down to a powerful first-half display against the wind in Pearse Stadium.

First-half goals from David Tubridy and Jamie Malone had the Banner in front at half-time - 2-06 to 0-07 - and they held firm thereafter, surviving the loss of Cathal O'Connor to a red card just after the break to march on.

It's the first time Clare have made an All-Ireland SFC quarter-final, and an overjoyed Collins showered his men with praise at the final whistle.

"It was a great display from the boys. I'm very proud of them," he told RTÉ Sport.

"They're a fantastic group. I thought the game was won in the first half against the breeze, we were excellent.

"We're delighted, absolutely delighted, but we've got to calm down now and get focused for next week."

"It was a great display from the boys. I'm very proud of them."

Clare burst out of the traps in Salthill, causing the Rossies all sorts of problems with their direct running and attacking intent.

Dean Ryan spurned a golden goal chance early on before Tubridy rattled the net, as a flat-looking Roscommon side failed to take off.

"We'd a very good goal chance at the start but thankfully the boys drove on and they got two goals after that - it was mighty altogether," added Collins, whose son Podge made an impressive cameo off the bench.

"We needed new energy and we got that from the lads who came on. Our six subs today are a tribute to the panel we have.

"I've tremendous belief in these lads. There a re a lot of very good footballers on this team."
