Clare hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald is still hoping to be on the sidelines for his side's All-Ireland quarter-final against Galway on Sunday, despite having minor heart surgery on Wednesday.

Fitzgerald had two angioplasty stents inserted at a Dublin hospital but is expected to be discharged on Friday.

This is the second time that the Clare boss has had to go under the knife due to heart issues after surgery in 2009, when he had stents inserted due to a blocked artery.

Should Fitzgerald miss Sunday's match at Semple Stadium, Dónal Óg Cusack and Louis Mulqueen are poised to step in temporarily and take charge.
