Clare manager Colm Collins showered praise on his men after their All-Ireland SFC qualifier dismissal of Sligo, and said the Banner possess players that would make any county side in the the country.

They were two points behind at the break but, aided by the wind, they bounced back superbly in the second half to carve out a fine 2-17 to 1-13 victory.

Clare are now in the last 12 in the race for Sam Maguire, and Collins said they deserve nothing less.

“I’ve always felt we’ve had the players in Clare," he told RTÉ Sport. "Some of the players we have I think would get on any inter-county team.

"They work hard, they’re dedicated and they get what they deserve. They’re an absolute pleasure to work for. This victory today is for them."

It wasn't all plain sailing for Clare, with David Tubridy's first-half penalty keeping them in it before they outscored their opponents by 1-13 to 1-04 in the second period to march on.

"We made a lot of wrong decisions at the start, and spurned chances."

Collins admitted there's plenty to work on, but sees no reason why the Banner County should not be dreaming of an All-Ireland quarter-final.

“We went in at half-time and were down a couple for points," Collins added. "We made a lot of errors in the first half. There was a very strong breeze down the pitch and I felt that if we got a few scores we’d drive on, which we did. Credit to the lads, they got some really good scores in the second half.

“The penalty (kept us in the game) but at the same time we had some frees that we went for and considering the breeze we probably should have gone short on them.

"We made a lot of wrong decisions at the start and spurned chances.

“The next thing is trying to get to an All-Ireland quarter-final. At the start of the year we were trying to get back to Croke Park. It’s a matter of putting down the heads and getting a good performance next weekend and seeing where that takes us."
