Ahead of Sunday's Connacht SFC semi-final with Sligo, Roscommon joint-manager Kevin McStay believes the side have still to give a true indication of their worth in a championship game.
The encounter with the Yeats County at Hyde Park will be the Rossies' third outing in this year's summer campaign.
It began with a nervy performance against New York at Gaelic Park, with the visitors scraping home by the bare minimum. An improvement was there for all to see when Leitrim were brushed aside in Carrick three weeks ago.
McStay is now hoping that his troops can kick on and bring some of the form that impressed many during the league to the table at the Hyde on Sunday afternoon.
Explaining his intentions to RTÉ Sport, he said: "I'll be trying to rouse them into a championship fervour before they go out against Sligo.
"What that is, essentially, is looking for energy and meeting the challenge of a championship game. I want them to start a championship game with a championship tempo."
The clear objective now for Roscommon is to take out Sligo and get into a Connacht final.
"The jury, I think, might be out on us until we actually perform in what I view is a true championship game."
"Our season hinges on a great degree now to what happens next Sunday"
And while the Rossies are favoured to book a place in the Nestor Cup decider on 10 July, the former Sunday Game analyst, not surprisingly, is focused on the encounter with a team that sprung a surprise when accounting for Roscommon at the semi-final stage in 2015.
"Sligo were the better team in 2015 and Roscommon had to take their beating on the chin," he added.
"It was sore at the time but 12 months later it's like a brand new day again. It's championship, there's a lot on the table and it's a big prize.
"Our season hinges on a great degree now to what happens next Sunday. If we can beat Sligo on Sunday, lots of possibilities open up for us a group.
"To have to enter the qualifier route is going to be very challenging. In fairness, we are not thinking about that route - it's winner takes all on Sunday."
What should stand Roscommon in good stead for further challenges in the weeks ahead was getting to a Division 1 semi-final and recording eye-catching wins over Kerry, Cork and Donegal en route.
Reflecting on the spring campaign, McStay added: "We had to hit the ground running because were favourites to go down to Division 2. We set out our stall that we wanted to be a Division 1 team in 2017 and a lot of effort was put in prepping for the first two blocks of the league.
"To be very truthful we got further ahead than we thought and getting to a league semi-final kind of crept up on us. At that stage our attention was beginning to head towards the championship."
