The Cork football management have strenuously denied that a breach of discipline was the reason why two of their star players have departed from the senior panel.
Goalkeeper Ken O’Halloran and full-back Michael Shields have left the Peader Healy's squad and there were reports that the pair were penalised for stepping out of line at a recent training camp in Portugal.
“There was no breach of discipline in our training camp, absolutely not"
Speaking at last night’s Munster championship launch, selector Eoin O’Neill was adamant that both players are simply focussing on club commitments after struggling for game time with Cork.
“We’ve heard that thing come out,” outlined O’Neill when asked about the alleged fallout from the foreign training camp.
“There was no breach of discipline in our training camp, absolutely not. Everybody was impeccable out there.
“The reason why those guys are back with their clubs a bit more was that for various reasons – whether injury or just not getting game time – they haven’t had much game time with us.
“Basically Ken played the first [league] game and another game, Michael played nothing for us really. He played a half against Roscommon, he’s been injured. Michael had an ongoing issue with his ankle and a slight back issue.
The Rebels were relegated to Division 2 of the Allianz Football League despite winning three games out of seven and will face the winners of Tipperary and Limerick in the Munster championship.
