The Roscommon County Board have admitted that the call to move their Allianz Football League Division 1 clash with Dublin to Carrick-on-Shannon was made too late.
However, they are trying to make amends by laying on buses between Roscommon town and Carrick in order to ferry Dublin fans stranded by the switch.
"In hindsight the call was made too late," said county board PRO Hugh Lynn.
"We had faith in the pitch and it looked good on Saturday morning when we carried out an inspection. We were certain it would go ahead as planned.
"In the end we got far worse rain on Saturday night and Sunday morning than we expected.
"We accept that the timing wasn't the best - I wouldn't be happy if I was on a train to Cork for a match when I found out it was switched to Midleton."
The only train from Dublin to Roscommon that would have gotten fans to Dr Hyde Park on time left Heuston Station at 8.0 in the morning.
The decision to move the Dubs-Rossies game from the Hyde to Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada was announced at 9.30 - when many supporters were in transit.
In an attempt to make it up to these people and make sure that they get to the game, the Roscommon County Board have laid on return buses between the two Connacht towns.

"There will be buses there and back and we'll take as many as we can," said Lynn. "We will be trying to look after everyone and if we need more buses we'll get more buses."
Hyde Park was deemed unplayable following a pitch inspection on Sunday morning, with the decision announced at 9.30.
Last weekend's Roscommon-Mayo game went ahead at the Hyde following a late inspection and even at that, large patches of standing water were on the playing surface.
This afternoon's game will throw in at 2pm.
Roscommon took the decision to cede home advantage in Saturday's Connacht Under-21 final against Mayo, with that game going to neutral Markievicz Park in Sligo.
They ended up losing that by a point and are left to think what might have been had they gone ahead and played it on their home patch.
