Kildare, Tipperary and Clare claimed home wins, while Longford were away winners in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League on Sunday.
Kildare held out to record a slender 1-11 to 1-10 win over Limerick at St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge.
Cian O’Neill’s charges were on the back foot in the closing stages of this game, with Brian Fanning delivering a goal in the third minute of injury-time for the visitors.
However, time ran out for the Shannonsiders, as Kildare kept their unbeaten run intact. Kildare led by 1-05 to 0-06 at half-time, with Niall Kelly’s sixth minute goal the opening score of the contest.
Limerick worked hard with Ian Ryan impressive, but Kildare done enough to take maximum league points.
In the opening game of the day, Tipperary claimed a 2-11 to 0-12 win over Offaly in the mid-day throw-in at Sean Treacy Park.
Goals were key for the hosts in this contest, with majors from Michael Quinlivan and Martin Dunne helping them to a 2-08 to 0-05 interval lead.
Offaly worked hard, with Nigel Dunne and Niall McNamee among their scorers, but those early goals were a killer.
Clare claimed an impressive 1-18 to 0-10 win over Westmeath at Cusack Park, Ennis. The Banner made it three wins from four with an impressive display.
The hosts raced into a 0-07 to 0-00 lead by the 26th minute, with Eoin Cleary and Sean Collins among their scorers.
Clare never trailed this game and led by 0-10 to 0-03 at the interval. Colm Collins side moved 0-12 to 0-05 ahead entering the final quarter, and although Westmeath tried hard through John Heslin, Jamie Malone’s 65th minute goal put the result beyond doubt.
Longford worked hard to deliver a 1-17 to 2-9 win over Sligo at Markievicz Park. Longford led by 1-10 to 2-04 at half-time, and four points separated the sides with 14 minutes remaining, but the visitors stayed on top.
