Seánie Johnston's Cavan exile is over

Seánie Johnston has been recalled to the Cavan football squad ahead of the new season, with manager Terry Hyland confirming the development to the Irish Sun newspaper

Johnston created a stir in GAA circles when he joined Kildare in 2012. He spent two seasons with the Lilywhites, before returning to his club Cavan Gaels in 2013.

Hyland says Cavan are planning for the future, not dwelling on the past, with Johnston named in the provisional panel for the 2016 season.

"Seán has made himself available, we thought about and discussed it," explianed the Breffni boss.

"He had an operation on an ankle injury at the start of the year. That had been holding him back so it was only as the year went on that he was able to put those injury problems behind him.

"It's up to Seán now. Hopefully he can remain injury free and apply himself. He wouldn't have played with a lot of the players on the panel so he has to prove himself to them as well."
