Liam Kearns has been appointed as the new Tipperary senior football manager.

Kearns, who has previously taken the reins in Limerick and Laois, was confirmed as the successor to Peter Creedon by the county board on Tuesday night.

The Tralee man led Aherlow to the Tipperary Senior Football Championship in 2010, and had previously brought Limerick to the brink of provincial success, losing Munster finals against Kerry in 2003 and 2004.

He will be assisted by Tipperary Under-21, minor and junior manager Tommy Toomey, who will also be one of his selectors alongside Paul Fitzgerald and Shane Stapleton.

Creedon stepped down after the 12-point qualifier defeat to Tyrone last July.
