Slaughtneil (Derry) 4-13 Derrygonnelly (Fermanagh) 1-04
Ulster club football champions Slaughtneil sailed through the opening defence of their provincial crown with a comfortable preliminary round win against Derrygonnelly.
Three first-half goals put Slaughtneil, the 2015 All-Ireland club finalists, in a commanding position at the break, leading by 3-03 to 1-03.
Fermanagh champions Derrygonnelly only scored one point in the second half and finished the game with 14 men after the dismissal of Conal Jones.
Cormac O'Doherty's goal after 52 seconds, after Se McGuigan's shot was blocked down, gave Slaughtneil the dream start.
Christopher 'Sammy' Bradley drilled home a second in the seventh minute, thumping home left-footed at the near post.
Remarkably, the third score of the game was also a goal, with Derrygonnelly raising the game's third green flag in the eighth minute.
When a free was brought forward, free-taker Paul Ward showed some quick thinking to trot forward and bury the ball into the net from 13m with the Slaughtneil defence sleeping.
Chrissy McKaigue scored from the wing for the game's opening point in the tenth minute but Derrygonnelly, despite hitting seven first-half wides, stayed in the game with points from Declan Cassidy and Paul Ward.
Slaughtneil's third goal just before half time was the killer score, with Se McGuigan's fast hands putting O'Doherty through.
He passed across the square to 'Sammy' Bradley who tapped the ball home from close range to put the champions six points ahead.
Despite Ronan Bradley's black card early in the second half, Slaughtneil stayed in total command and slung over points from Padraig Kelly, Barry McGuigan and 'Sammy' Bradley.
With the game slipping away, Derrygonnelly were down to 14 men 10 minutes from time.
After being sent off in the Fermanagh SFC final last week, Conal Jones was dismissed again, this time for two yellow cards. Karl McKaigue scored a spectacular fourth goal after a neat exchange with Se McGuigan to put the gloss on an emphatic win.
The club's 13 dual hurlers play Cushendall in next Sunday's Ulster club hurling final, before the footballers resume their provincial campaign with a last-eight tie against Monaghan champions Scotstown.
