Counties up and down the country are awaiting their championship opponents for 2016
Counties up and down the country are awaiting their championship opponents for 2016

The dust has only recently settled on this year’s GAA championship but thoughts are already turning to the 2016 campaign and the draws for the provincial championships in both hurling and football. Live coverage of the draws will be live on RTÉ2 television and the RTÉ Player from 8pm.

Michael Lyster and Marty Morrissey will be joined by Cyril Farrell, Henry Shefflin, Dessie Dolan and Pat Spillane for reaction as counties begin in earnest to focus their attention on next summer.

All-Ireland football champions Dublin will be aiming for an 11th Leinster crown in 12 years, while beaten finalists Kerry will have their eye on a fourth successive Munster title.  Mayo have reigned supreme in Connacht since 2011 and the question is can the likes of Galway or Roscommon break their dominance?

Ulster remains the most competitive province in the provincial series. Monaghan are the defending champions, though the likes of Donegal and Tyrone will have their sights on regaining the Anglo Celt Cup.

In hurling, Kilkenny are bidding for a 13th Leinster win since the turn of the century. Tipperary are the holders in Munster but can expect a serious challenge from Clare, Cork, Limerick and Waterford in their quest for back-to-back honours.
