Philly McMahon hailed Dublin's ability to stick to their gameplan despite the difficult conditions as Jim Gavin's men overcame Kerry to lift their 25th All-Ireland title at Croke Park.

Dublin were far from their swashbuckling best but they never allowed Kerry to hit full stride at a wet and greasy Croker.

The Kingdom never found their rhythm as the Dubs kicked on from a four-point half-time lead to take the title, and McMahon praised his side's steel.

“Both sides had to play in these conditions. It’s not new to us, we stuck to our system right throughout to the end and that stood to us," the Ballymun Kickhams man told RTÉ Sport

“It flew through, we didn’t realise it would be that quick. It’s one of those things. The atmosphere was amazing, the fans were brilliant and I’m glad we gave them the reward today."

Alan Brogan, Kevin McManamon and Michael Darragh Macauley all made an impact from the bench as Dublin once again reaped the benefits of a powerful squad.

“The subs were massive, like they were all year," said McMahon. "The competition is really good. You never think of winning the game, you always think of just playing it and playing right through to the end and that’s what we did.”
