The GAA's Central Competition Controls Committee are set to investigate an incident in a challenge match between Dublin and Armagh which left Davey Byrne with several facial injuries.

It is understood that the CCCC have viewed a DVD of the game but that footage is inconclusive.

The game was an officially sanctioned friendly and was refereed by Longford's Fergal Kelly

There is no reference to the incident in the referee's report but the GAA are seeking more information from both counties.

"Regrettably, an incident took place before a recent challenge game against Armagh," said Dublin manager Jim Gavin last week.

"It's disappointing because I think discipline would be a core philosophy of both management teams.

"Subsequent to that both players have spoken and they regret what happened and both players are now concentrating on their inter-county careers."
