Leitrim withstood a strong Lancashire comeback before delivering a 1-16 to 1-14 win in Ballinamore.

The hosts stormed out of the blocks and built up an early 0-07 to 0-01 advantage, with Padraig O’Donnell on target for four of their early scores.

Lancashire fought back to cut the gap to five points, with scores from Colm Moreton and Colm O’Callaghan, but Leitrim always kept in front.

The Connacht side took an 0-11 to 0-04 interval lead with O’Donnell helping to extend their advantage.

Leitrim failed to ease up on the restart with O’Donnell breaking through for a goal to ensure a nine-point advantage.

Colm O’Callaghan worked hard for the visitors, taking scores from play and frees to reduce the gap to five points.

Lancashire never gave up though and thanks to the efforts of Liam Moreton, Liam Knocker and Laois man Nathan Unwin the gap was reduced to two points.

But Leitrim held out for victory.

Goals were key for Lancashire’s fellow British counterparts Warwickshire as they claimed a 3-12 to 1-15 win over Sligo in Markievicz Park.

The visitors started brightly with goals from Colm McBride and John Bergin helping them to a 2-01 to 0-01 lead.

Sligo worked hard with Gerard O’Kelly Lynch and Damien Fahy bringing them back into contention and they took a slender 0-10 to 2-03 interval advantage.

Gary Waldron and Fahy put the hosts further clear on the restart, but Emmett McCabe showed great leadership to bring Warwickshire back into contention.

The captain bagged four unanswered points, before a Pauric Crehan goal ensured a 3-08 to 0-13 lead.

Fahy netted for Sligo to cut the gap to four points but Warwickshire held out for victory.
