Clare manager Colm Collins will miss his side’s Munster SFC clash against Limerick on 23 May as he serves a 12-week ban for an incident involving a linesman in the Banner’s home win over Fermanagh during the league campaign.

Collins, who was apoplectic following the failure of officials to award a Clare point after an effort by Shane McGrath, will not contest the suspension handed down by the Competition Control Committee.

County chairman Michael McDonagh told the Clare Champion: “Colm Collins put his point in an animated way across to the linesman that it was a point.

“As a result, Colm Collins was reported for minor physical interference. There was nothing major in what happened and there was nothing wrong in what Colm Collins did. I honestly believe the linesman will state that. “

Despite McDonagh’s staunch defence of the Clare supremo, he confirmed that an appeal would not be in the offing, citing the desire to avoid getting “sidelined by the theatrics of an appeal”.
