Kerry’s Kieran Donaghy and Richie Power of Kilkenny have been named as the GAA/GPA players of the month for September.
Full-forward Donaghy hit the headlines after his spectacular performance, scoring 1-02, as the Munster side won their first Sam Maguire trophy since 2009.
The Tralee man came from the bench to help rescue the initial semi-final clash with Mayo and went on to score a vital goal in the replay.
Richie Power made his sixth All-Ireland final appearance as the Cats were crowned Liam MacCarthy Cup winners for a 35th time.
Kilkenny proved themselves to be the better team yet again as they beat arch-rivals Tipperary in a titanic replay, which saw Power score (1-01) and his side go on to win the title 2-17 to 2-14.
GAA President Liam Ó Néill said: “Kieran Donaghy’s role in Kerry’s All-Ireland series push was nothing short of spectacular, powering their semi-final push before delivering in style – not for the first time – in a winning final outing.
“Richie Power was hugely instrumental in Kilkenny’s push for another Liam MacCarthy Cup win and was in many ways their ‘go to’ man over two finals.”
