Aogán Ó Fearghail has been voted in as the next president of the GAA.

He will be the first Cavan man to assume high office with the association and will succeed Liam O'Neill for the position following the conclusion of the 2015 All-Ireland club Championships.

Ó Fearghail received 170 of the 311 votes cast at congress defeating Wexford Sheamus Howlin and Kerry's Sean Walsh.

Also at last night's Central Council meeting it was decided to withdraw a motion from today's Congress Clár, which had proposed that free-takers be outside the 20 metre line when striking the sliothar.

Central Council will now issue an updated interpretation of the rule.
