Flynn admits tough Model challenge

Paul Flynn admitted Wexford gave Dublin a huge test after the All-Ireland champions rallied to earn a 2-11 to 1-10 win in Croke Park in the Leinster Football Championship semi-final.

The Dublin star helped earn the four-point victory despite trailing for much of the game and having Diarmuid Connolly sent off in the 52nd minute.

Flynn told RTÉ Radio 1’s Sunday Sport: "It was tight going getting a man sent off early in the second half. Fair play to all the lads, we dug deep and I think it sparked us.

“We were a little flat in the first half and the sending off gave us some sort of some sort of spark. We worked hard for each other and there were no individuals out there.

"Pat (Gilroy) said to keep believing in ourselves and keep going. We knew we didn’t play up to scratch in the first half but that if we kept digging deep it would come for us. Again it was the sending off that gave us the kick start.

"I didn’t see the incident so I can’t comment on it but it I think it was innocuous enough. We got the win and stood up when it counted.

"It was tough work out there with 14 men and hard luck to Wexford, best of luck to them in the qualifiers because it will take a good team to stop them."
