Wexford manager Jason Ryan believes supporters in Tullamore got “value for money” after his side scraped past Longford in a dramatic Leinster Senior Football Championship quarter-final replay.
Longford were the better side for long periods of the game at O’Connor Park on Sunday and looked to have the game sewn up as they led by three points in the closing stages.
However, the Model men rallied and four answered points, including the crucial last one from goalscorer Redmond Barry, saw them run out 1-13 to 0-15 winners.
Ryan spoke of his overriding “relief” after the “very important” win, and praised the quality of the fare on offer.
“We haven’t won a game for a while, so it’s great to get a win there. It was great excitement. It was nail-biting stuff. And there was a big, big, big crowd here and they got value for money again,” the Waterford native said.
Wexford now have a clash with Dublin to prepare for, but Ryan was content after the game to express his pride at how well his charges performed.
“It was nip-and-tuck the whole way through and, you know, we just about did enough.
"It shows the character of these players. I’m very, very proud of them today.”
