New Offaly boss confirms McManus will not be back

New Offaly football manager Tom Coffey has confirmed that Ciaran McManus will not be coming out of retirement.

Coffey is understood held a meeting with McManus, with a view to getting him to return to the inter-county side.

However McManus, who retired in November told the manager that he was not able to give the commitment needed, and would not be coming back.

In an inteview with the Tullamore Tribune, Coffey said: "He was unable to commit. It would be very unfair to give a 36-year-old three weeks' training ahead of the Kildare game.

"He needs to be protected as well, after all the great games he has played for Offaly."
