Kilkenny's Henry Shefflin eyes June comeback but will not rush back to action

Kilkenny forward Henry Shefflin is adamant that he won’t return to action until he is 100 per cent fit.

The Ballyhale Shamrocks man has had a torrid time with injuries over the last two years and is still on the comeback trail after shoulder surgery.

“I am not going to go back playing unless I am right. I don’t think I could face another long lay-off if I got injured,” Shefflin said in the Irish Independent.

The Cats play Cork in the Allianz League final on Sunday but the 33-year-old has his mind on a possible return for the Leinster championship semi-final on 23 June.

“I don’t know at the minute when I might be able to return. I haven’t done enough work to know. If I got a couple of weeks of good training and felt good, I would definitely be in with a chance,” added Shefflin.

The All-Ireland champions will also be without Richie Power for Sunday’s encounter.

The forward suffered a knee injury during a club match last week and is expected to be out for four to six weeks.
