Donal Óg Cusack looks certain to be out for the season after confirming that he suffered a 'complete' Achilles tendon rupture during Cork's Allianz League semi-final win over Tipperary on Sunday.

The Cork captain and goalkeeper was injured 17 minutes into the first half after throwing himself forward to knock a ball away.

Cusack confirmed the worst on twitter and revealed that he is due to undergo surgery later on Monday, before paying tribute to the medics, officials and Gardai at Semple Stadium.

Speaking on RTÉ Two's League Sunday, Cork manager Jimmy Barry Murphy said: "It is a terrible loss for us.

"It doesn’t look good. He has gone to Dublin for an examination or an operation as we speak.

"It doesn’t look good and I am bitterly disappointed for him because he has been a great captain for us so far and he has done a great job.

"He has really been the players’ leader and he has done a great job for us."
