Australia have hammered a UCC/CIT selection in their International Rules series warm-up match. The national team sunk the university selection 105-12 at Páirc Uí Rinn on Wednesday night.

Aussie full forward Jack Riewoldt imposed himself on the match in the opening quarter as his side raced into a 19 point lead – 0-5-5 to 0-0-1.

Marc Rowan was the only Irishman on the scoresheet in that opening 18-minute period.

In the second quarter Riewoldt's dominace on the field paid dividends as he smashed home Australia's first goal in the 29th minute after a Jarrad McVeigh pass.

At the halfway mark Australia had extended their lead to an unassailable 54-1. The score could and probably should have been worse, but for some excellent saves from Brian Walsh in the UCC/CIT goal.

Bryce Gibbs struck the Aussies second goal in the third quarter, before the university selection hit two overs through Paul Honohan and Ciarán Sheehan. Hugh Curran then knocked-over another over for Cork; however, Colm O’Neill had just slipped when in on goal with a clear chance of striking the onion sack. By the end of that quarter the score had been pushed out to 74-12.

In the last quarter the pace dropped off as the earlier tempo showed its effects on both sides. However, Brad Greene did step up for the Aussies in that final 18 minutes to hammer home two goals and seal UCC/CIT’s miserable evening.
