Cavan's Paul Brady will take on Texan Allan Garner in the final of the Men's Open at the World Handball Championships in Portland, Oregon later today.
Brady defeated top American, Emmet Peixoto, 21-9, 21-9 in
Friday's semi-final, while Garner recorded an impressive victory
over Arizona's Luis Moreno.
The final takes place at 11am local US time (7pm Irish time), with Brady bidding for a third successive crown.
Meanwhile, four Irish pairings will fight it out in the semi-final of
the Men's Open Doubles following a great day of action by the
country's top players yesterday.
Michael Gregan and Johnny Willoughby (Wicklow) face Eoin Kennedy (Dublin) and Michael Finnegan (Cavan) in the first semi-final, while Charly Shanks (Armagh) and Colm Jordan (Cork) face Brian Carroll (Meath) and Robbie McCarthy (Westmeath).
In the Ladies Open, Antrim's Fiona Shannon takes on Canada's Samantha England, while fellow Saffron handballer, Aisling O'Reilly, faces number two seed Anna Engele. Kerry's Maria Daly and Roscommon's Marianna Rushe both made their exits from the championships on Friday evening.
All of the Irish juveniles were in action, where there were victories for Padraig McKenna (Monaghan), Diarmaid Nash (Clare), Shauna Hilley (Wicklow) and Lauren O'Riordan (Roscommon).
Both 17 and Under representatives, Jamie Lynch (Clare) and Catriona Casey (Cork) were defeated in semi-final tiebreakers, against Peter Hughes (Wexford) and Lorraine Havern (Down).
Ireland also got their Federation Cup underway, with wins for Robbie McCarthy (Westmeath), Charly Shanks (Armagh), Marianna Rushe (Roscommon) and Bernie Hennessy (Limerick).
