ABOUT THE SHOW
It is believed that the strength of our Gaelic Games lies at local level: every parish, village, town, suburb and city in Ireland is represented by the colours of its local team and each has its own identity, usually sharpened by an intense rivalry with the neighbours down the road.

To celebrate 125 years of the GAA Pride of the Parish, RTÉ One’s new six- part documentary series, will offer snap shots of six very different clubs which will capture the essence of the Association’s unique place within every community in the country.

PROGRAMME 1: FRIDAY 17 APRIL
Joe CanningKicking off the series, Galway stars Joe and Ollie Canning open doors to their family and their beloved club, Portumna, and reveal how it has brought them to where they are today. Joe is one of hurling's most exciting talents in more than a generation while his brother Ollie has been one of Galway's hurling stars for a decade.

From their childhood hurling games on the farm that sharpened their skills at a young age to behind-the-scenes footage with the senior team as they go in search of the elusive back-to-back County and All Ireland titles, this is a portrait of what is required of a club to be All Ireland champions. Set against the backdrop of Galway's 2008 championship season and Joe's long-awaited senior debut, this will be essential viewing for any GAA fan.

In this episode he explores the meaning of being from 'Turk' as the team gears up for the All Island Tournament in a pitch that is still being dug from the rocks.
