Former Laois minor star Colm Begley is delighted after clinching a move to AFL side St Kilda in this year's draft.
Begley experienced the disappointment of being released by former club Brisbane Lions in October, but despite the prospect of failing to find a club, he stayed on in Australia and was rewarded with a move to the famous Melbourne club.
Begley, who was pick 83, admitted: 'I’m delighted, especially with a good club like St Kilda. I didn’t want to watch the draft because I was a bit nervous so I was waiting for a phone call. I was staying at a house with a few of the boys who were watching it on a laptop.
'I was staying upstairs and then heard them singing "Oh When the Saints" so I thought it should be good news.'
He added: 'It’s a great club and I get to stay in Melbourne which is a new experience for me and something I’m looking forward to. I get a second chance at footy which I really wanted.'
