Former Cork hurling captain Mark Landers has called on new GAA Director General Paraic Duffy to intervene in the current row between the county’s senior football and hurling players and the County Board.
The players have resorted to strike action in opposition to changes made affecting the selection of the county's management teams.
The respective squads have been in conflict with Cork officials after it emerged that the county board would be responsible for picking selectors for both managers, and the strike action has escalated the row.
Landers is concerned by that latest development and said: 'We are now in the middle of December and inter-county players are expected to be back playing and training by January,' he said.
'I don't know if a solution to the crisis can be found within Cork. So I think it will require someone from the outside, like Paraic Duffy, to come to take a look at both views, and make a decision.'
Landers also accused the board of not taking the issue seriously enough. 'I think the issue arose last year and nothing was done about it. Ger Cunningham and Patsy Morrissey both intimated their interest in coming on board with the hurlers and did not get the respect of a call from the county board,' he said.
