Sean Boylan has confirmed that Armagh's Kieran McGeeney will captain Ireland in the upcoming Coca-Cola International Rules Series against Australia.

McGeeney made his international debut for Ireland when the Rules series was revived in 1998 and since then  has represented his country on eight occasions in five separate Test series.

The Armagh man was last involved in the series in Australia in 2003 when he scored three points as Ireland lost on aggregate by just seven points.

Boylan described McGeeney as a natural leader and said he was delighted to have a player of such experience available to captain the side.

It was also confirmed that Sydney Swans star Tadhg Kennelly will fulfill the role of vice-captain.

The Listowel man missed last year’s series through injury but he has scored 48 points in his six International appearances since he made his debut in 2001.
