The Central Council of the GAA meets today to vote on a joint application from the FAI and the IRFU to use Croke Park for three years from 2007.
Earlier in the year Rule 42 – the ban on so-called foreign sports being played in Croke Park – was amended to allow soccer and rugby to be played there during the redevelopment of Lansdowne Road.
Though the ban was lifted, it is believed that there is significant opposition within the 50-strong body to the application, which was made after meetings between the FAI, the IRFU, and the GAA.
However, if a majority of the Central Council are in favour of the motion, soccer or rugby could be played at GAA headquarters in just over a year.
