Australian coach Kevin Sheedy strongly defended Russell Robertson's high tackle on Tom Kelly in the first test at the Subiaco Oval.

When challenged that some of the main Irish players have been consistently targeted by the illegal Australian tackling over the years, Sheedy argued the legitimacy of the tackle by Robertson, saying that the Laois defender was in possession and in the air at the time.

“That’s the way we’ve been brought up to play”, he said. “It’s very difficult for players not to keep moving through a line of flight, in a ball path or a player path. We think that’s strong play, hard play. I wouldn’t apologise, it was an accident.”
