The Gaelic Players' Association has revealed their plan for official player funds for the 67 inter-county hurling and football squads.

Two players in each county will manage the funds, which will come directly from the sales of the 'Club Energize' drink - as part of the GPA's sponsorship deal with  C&C Ireland.

GPA chief executive Dessie Farrell said: "The launch of Club Energize into the energy drinks sector has enormous implications for the GAA community and our players.

"With the establishment of the Official GPA Players' Funds for the 67 (including London and NewYork) inter county squads, GAA people can actively support their own county players directly.

"For every bottle of Club Energise purchased, money will be allocated directly to players through the Official Players' GPA Funds in each county."

Meanwhile, according to a report in The Star newspaper today, the GPA has commissioned a survey of GAA players on the subject of players' welfare.

They quizzed players on various issues of concern in the hope of gauging the players' willingness to take strike action.
