Ladies' GAA has been rocked by the news that Mayo have been removed from all activities governed by the Association. The decision was reached at a meeting the Central Council of Cumann Peil Gael na mBan last night (Wednesday, April 14).
A statement released by the GAA today confirmed: "This decision came about after the failure by the Mayo Ladies County Board to accept the terms of an independent mediator after a lengthy mediation process. The Central Council fully accepted the recommendations of the independent mediator, Mr John Prenty - the Secretary of the Connacht Council, who was brought into the process in an attempt to resolve this dispute on the request of the Mayo Ladies County Board.
"Unfortunately, the Mayo Board did not accept the proposals put forward by Mr Prenty, thus leaving Cumann Peil Gael na mBan with no other choice but to remove Mayo from all activities of the Association. This decision of the Central Council of Cumann Peil Gael na mBan can only be overturned if an appeal is lodged by the Mayo Ladies County Board that highlights new evidence under the guidelines of the Association's rulebook.
"Cumann Peil Gael na mBan are saddened by this decision which was only arrived at after the Association exhausted every possible attempt to resolve this issue since last November. At a time when everything is going so well for the Association, it is unfortunate that the Association finds itself in this position. Cumann Peil Gael na mBan are still hopeful this issue can be resolved."
