Cavan and Dublin pass motions

The Cavan and Dublin County Boards last night passed a motion at their Annual Conventions in favour of opening Croke Park to other sports. However, a similar proposal in Waterford was defeated.

The motions in Cavan and Dublin were very similar - they would give the GAA's Central Council the power to sanction the use of Croke Park to sporting bodies wishing to use its facilities, providing such use does not take precedence over gaelic games fixtures.

The Cavan motion, submitted by the Ramor United Club, and the Dublin one, from Kilmacud Crokes, will go before the National Congress next April.

In Waterford, however, a similar motion proposed by the Clashmore club was defeated by 82 votes to 50. Waterford chairman Paddy Joe Ryan urged a firm decision to be taken at Congress and not to have this issue visited on an annual basis.
