DJ Carey was involved in a dramatic high-speed car chase after a thief stole his car at a petrol station in Kildare. Carey went into the station in Celbridge to pay for petrol and on his return found someone had stolen his car. He then hopped into a stranger's car who recognised him and they took chase hitting speeds of 100 miles an hour.
Later he spotted the car in a pub car park in Celbridge and took chase on foot eventually catching the thief and dragging him to the ground. The thief's accomplices arrived during the fracas however and he escaped with €2,500 ticket money intended for the All-Ireland hurling semi final between Kilkenny and Tipperary.
Carey told The Star newspaper: 'When he saw me he made a run for it.' He laughed: 'He was running away from the wrong man. We scuffled for a moment but I caught him and held him down, I was so annoyed I didn't really think about anything else. It might have been a silly thing to do but when you're mad you're mad.'
Gardai have yet to make an arrest in connection with the incident.
