Parnell Park gets floodlight approval

Gaelic Games in Dublin has been boosted by confirmation this afternoon that the Dublin County Board has had its planning permission for floodlighting in Parnell Park approved. The Board has been working furiously over the past number of months to seek approval from the relevant authorities, and today's approval, together with their recent Leinster senior football title, will go a significant way to improving the standing of both football and hurling in the capital.

It is believed the lights could be ready before the start of the new Allianz National Leagues next year, which could see Dublin play their home games under lights for the first time.

Similar ventures in the eircom League (soccer) and AIB League (rugby) have seen dramatic increases in attendances, and this step should only enhance the appeal of both football and hurling in the county.
