Sligo vote for abolition of Rule 21

Sligo have become the latest county to vote in favour of the abolition of the controversial Rule 21 following a meeting of the County Board on Thursday. The Connacht county passed the motion ahead of a special GAA congress to be held in Dublin on November 17th, and join Louth and Donegal in ending the rule, which was introduced to bar members of the British security forces and police from joining GAA clubs.

The remaining Ulster counties won't announce their decisions until closer to the Congress, but the boards of Monaghan and Cavan are expected to vote for the abolition of the rule when they meet on Monday. Antrim, Tyrone and Down are not expected to decide until two days before the Congress, while Armagh, Derry and Fermanagh have already voted to have the rule retained.
