Donegal vote to abolish Rule 21

Donegal has become the first Ulster county to vote for the abolition of the controversial Rule 21 following a meeting of the County Board last night. The county voted overwhelmingly in favour of the change ahead of a special GAA congress to be held in Dublin on November 17th.

The motion was passed by 34 votes to four, and follows decisions by Armagh, Derry and Fermanagh to keep the ruling. The rule was introduced to bar members of the British security forces and police from joining GAA clubs.
