Derry captain Anthony Tohill has been named as the Irish captain for the International Rules tour to Australia next October. Tohill (29), who replaces last year's captain Trevor Giles, has been an influential member of the Irish team for the last three International Rules test series. Brian McEniff will again manage the side.

Two former captains are also included in the preliminary 46-man squad, the Meath duo of John McDermott and Trevor Giles, with 18 counties represented on the squad. All-Ireland champions Kerry have seven representatives including goalkeeper Declan O'Keefe, Michael McCarthy, Seamus Moynihan, Eamonn Fitzmaurice, Dara O Sé, Mike Frank Russell and Johnny Crowley.

Apart from Giles and McDermott, manager Brian McEniff has named Meath's Cormac O'Sullivan, Darren Fay and Graham Geraghty. Dublin are represented by Paddy Christie, Colman Goggins and Ciaran Whelan. Also included are Michael Donnellan, Peter Canavan and Dermot Early.
