GAA: Waterford ladies book place in final

Waterford 1-17 Meath 0-8

Waterford’s ladies recorded an emphatic victory over Meath at Parnell Park today, and booked their place in the final where they’ll meet Mayo. In a one-sided affair, Waterford’s progression to the All –Ireland football final was never in question from the moment Geraldine O’Ryan opened the scoring with a point after 35 seconds.

Further points from Claire Ryan and Catriona Casey increased Waterford’s lead, before Niamh Barry scored the games only goal after 8 minutes to race into a 7 points to zero lead. Meath didn’t register their first score until the fifteenth minute, Jackie Shield’s point doing little to alter the course of the game.

Waterford, who have had a virtual stranglehold on the game in recent years, continued the onslaught after the interval and in the end ran out convincing winners over the four time beaten semi-finalists, and will be undoubted favourites for the final meeting with Mayo.
