John Troy shocked Offaly hurling yesterday by sensationally withdrawing from their county panel. Troy was missing when the team met on Monday and Wednesday night for training and it emerged that he was severing links with the panel. He is alleged to have had a disagreement with the management over his substitution in the quarter final clash with Derry.
He was taken off 15 minutes from the end of the match and made no secret of his displeasure, having ‘words’ with manager Pat Fleury about his substitution as he felt other team-mates were having less of an impact on the game than himself. The decision will hurt Offaly’s All-Ireland prospects as Troy is one of the most gifted hurlers in the country and an important part of the Offaly team.
