Offaly defender Kevin Martin must pass a fitness test before taking his place in the starting line-up for the county's Leinster Final meeting with Kilkenny on Sunday. Martin is struggling with a hamstring injury which saw him retire from the semi-final victory over Wexford after only eight minutes, and his replacement that day, David Franks now looks likely to hold the position.
Martin will test the injured tendon at training tonight in Tullamore. "At this stage it's in the lap of the gods," said the experienced wing-back. "I've done everything possible and received the best treatment available. I really want to play against Kilkenny because I feel we owe them one at this stage - but it's up to Pat Fleury and his selectors."
Frustration has emersed Martin in recent times as he has tried to fight off injury to the other leg. Typically just when that seemed right the other failed. "Maybe I neglected it by concentrating on building up the weak leg, I'm sick and tired of hamstrings and all the treatment!", said the dejected player.
