GAA: GPA announce new sponsorship deal

The Gaelic Players Asscociation has received a major boost with the announcement today of a new sponsorship deal, worth £130,000 with the Carphone Warehouse. The deal is in the form of monthy award winners with an end of year award also included. The GPA and the GAA have come into conflict recently with the governing body refusing to meet with the new players association which now has over 450 members.

The deal, while certainly boosting the status of the GPA, is spread over a three year period, which means that the amount is in fact, not that substantial in terms of a sport sponsorship.

However, it is another major step on the road to recognition for the so-called rebel players association and the Chief Administrator of the GPA, Donal O'Neill, reiterated his stance, that the association is here to stay.
