Meath's Graham Geraghty has not been selected for Ireland for the opening International Rules game against Australia. The GAA management committee directed the Irish team management not to select the player. This follows an alleged racist remark made by Geraghty during the course of a friendly against the Australian Institute of Sport Academy on Tuesday. The Meath captain subsequently apologised for the remarks but the GAA felt it best not to consider him for selection for the opening game, which gets underway at 10.30am this morning.
In the absence of Graham Geraghty, manager Colm O'Rourke has selected his strongest available team for Friday morning's opening International Rules game against Australia. Kerry's Declan O'Keeffe is in goal. Seamus Moynihan, Darren Fay and Sean Martin Lockart form the full back line. Finbarr Cullen, Glen Ryan and Sean Og de Paor are at half back, while team captain John McDermott links up with Niall Buckley at midfield. Trevor Giles, Jarlath Fallon and Michael Donnellan are at half-forward, with Peter Canavan, Anthony Tohill and Dessie Dolan the three full forwards.
