The Irish squad for next months International rules series against Australia has being announced at Croke Park. There are 4 Meath players in the panel of 19 and just one from Cork. Galway have three while Dublin have 2 in Kieran Whelan and Brian Stynes. John Quane of Limerick and Dessie Dolan of Westmeath are also included. The first test is on the 8th of October in Melbourne with the second test on the 15th in Adelaide.
Meanwhile the build up to Sundays Hurling final between Cork and Kilkenny continues with both sides announcing unchanged line-ups for the game. The GAA has announced that the presentations of the McCarthy Cup and the Sam Maguire Cup for this year’s All-Ireland finals will take place on a podium in the centre of the pitch. This season the GAA has not allowed supporters onto the pitch at the end of games and that will continue for both the football and hurling finals.
In other news Paidi O'Se has been re-appointed as Kerry football manager for another 2 years. Offaly have appointed a new football county team manager to replace Tommy Lyons. Kildare born Padriag Nolan, has experience as a manager with St Patrick’s of Navan who he led to two Leinster Colleges titles and he also managed Meath club Dunderry. Gay Sheerin has been re-appointed manager of the Roscommon Senior Football team.
