Wexford moved up to second in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League after a 0-16 to 1-07 defeat of Sligo at Chadwicks Wexford Park on Sunday.

The Model County will travel to Ennis to face Clare in fortnight's time with promotion very much the target.

The hosts were five points to the good with 11 minutes gone, Eoghan Nolan chipping in with a huge two-pointer from beyond the '45'.

Sligo did get off the mark through Luke Towey, but the home side continued to pull away, leading 0-10 to 0-03 at half-time.

It was plain sailing for Wexford on the turnaround. Niall Hughes got them moving with a fisted point and they held their opponents at arm's length thereafter.

The Yellowbellies were 0-16 to 0-07 up with an hour gone, and though Cian Lally did bag a goal as the game ticked into injury time, it was too little too late.
